Repair Relationships with Honesty
Let’s be honest…
Repairing relationships after incarceration is one of the hardest yet most transformative parts of reentry. Honesty isn’t a confession dump. It’s thoughtful, consistent truth-telling paired with changed behavior.
Start with self-reflection
Before you approach anyone, look inward. What promises were broken? Own your part fully. No “but you…”
Choose the right time and place
Start with sincerity: “I’ve been thinking a lot about how my past actions affected you, and I want to talk honestly if you’re open.” Then listen more than you speak.
Make amends through actions
One honest conversation means little without follow-through. Consistency is the proof.
Handle setbacks without getting defensive
“I understand why you’re hesitant. I’m willing to prove this through actions over time.”
Stay honest, stay consistent, and keep believing in the power of repaired relationships.
