How to Reflect on Your History

Stop Running from Your History.

Let’s be honest,

If you’re anything like I was thirty-five years ago, the last thing you want to do is sit quietly and think about the past. You’ve already lived it. You’ve already paid for it. Why drag it all up again?

Because running from your history doesn’t make it disappear – it just keeps chasing you.

My Wake-Up Call

One night during home confinement I couldn’t sleep. Instead of pushing it down, I grabbed a legal pad and started writing. No editing. By sunrise I had six pages of raw honesty – and for the first time in years, I felt lighter. Not fixed. Just lighter.

Your Reflection Exercise This Week

Give yourself 20–30 minutes. No phone.

Step 1: Write the facts. What did I do? Who was hurt? What were the consequences?

Step 2: Write the why. What fear or pressure was driving me?

Step 3: Write the cost and the lesson.

Step 4: One sentence of acceptance. “I accept that [brief fact]. It was wrong, I paid for it, and I’m choosing to grow from it every day.”

You’ve already carried this weight long enough. Now let reflection lighten the load — one page, one sentence, one day at a time.
